Mage (メイジ) is a reoccuring class in the 7th Dragon series.

OverviewEdit

Mages are extreme elemental damage-dealers. They can use 4 types of magic: Fire, Ice, Lightning and Mana. All types of magic have single strike and full party elemental attacks. All elemental magic (excluding Mana) also have veils, which function is to retaliate with a magical attack when hit upon. They also have Space magic, which grants useful field skills such as Portal Jump (ポータルジャンプ) and Exit (イグジット), as well as Pharmaceuticals (薬学) and Discerning Judgement (鑑定学). The Mages main weakness is their low DEF and high MANA usage, so they will need extra protection and some form of MANA recovery.

  • Fire has a big disadvantage compared to other elemental magics. Many bosses have resistance to fire and not many mobs are weak against fire, which can be seen as a double-edged sword. Thanks to that its full party attack is very reliable.
  • Many dragons are weak against Ice, making it the desirable dragon-hunting element, but on hindsight, many mobs are resistant to Ice.
  • Out of the three elements, Lightning is the safest and most well-rounded pick. Many dragons and mobs are weak against lightning.
  • Out of all magical types, Mana is the safest and most reliable pick, as it ignores both resistance and weakness. For its neutrality it trades off in small amount of power, however, and lacks veil skills. To compensate Mana magic also offers Healing Mana (ヒーリングマナ) and the powerful Mage's Concentrate (メイジズコンセント). It is also the easiest way to obtain the Space magic's EX spell, End of the World (ジエンドオブワールド), which has a chance of inflicting Skill Seal.

StrategyEdit

When you have all skills you need, max INT bonus, as it boosts the power of spells. It is recommended to have a Healer or a Princess to mitigate the high MANA usage.

  • The Single Elemental and Mana Mage picks one elemental + Mana magic. This Mage have Veil + Mage's Concentrate + single target elemental/Mana attack. Party-wide elemental spells are for mobs, but if they are resistant to the element of choice you can also use Heaven's Press (ヘヴンズプレス). Against bosses and dragons the general rotation is Mage's Concentrate → single target elemental spell. If the enemy is resistant to that element use Mana Bullet (マナバレット) instead. The elemental EX spell is optional.
  • Pure Mana Mage uses only Mana magic: Heaven's Press for random encounter and Mage's Concentrate → Mana Bullet for bosses and dragons. Healing Mana can be picked up but 3 MANA is not significant and therefore not necessary. When you have all skills + INT bonus, go for Planet Mastery (ポータルジャンプ), Pharmaceuticals or Discerning Judgement. Late game, End of the World should be available, but keep in mind that Heaven's Press and Mana Bullet is required at Lv. 5 and cost 7 MANA.
  • The Tri Elemental Mage uses all elemental skills: Fire, Ice and Lightning. This Mage is one of the most SP intense Mages. The advantage this Mage has over others is that they can deal exploit both weaknesses and resistances. The desired Mage's Concentrate won't be obtained until late game (unless you prioritize it) but that is not a big problem if the foe has elemental weakness.
  • The Abjuration Mage is abnormal. The Mage sits on the front row and cast a veil on himself and then he cast a maxed Craft Shield (シールドクラフト) and continue recast it each turn. Placing a Mage at the front row is a fast ticket to die, so you might want a Knight with Defense Shift, a Fighter with the EX skill Maxing Call or a Princess with Solid Rhyme. Also, you must have a Healer with Craft Mana or a Princess with Song of the Moonlight because recasting Craft Shield every turn is very MANA intensive. This Mage is also SP expensive.

  • Examples: Heal Aeros will heal 100 LF at Lv. 5, and a bottle of Mana Water will recover 30 MN.
Discerning Judgment

  • Increases drop acquisition rate.
  • +5% at Lv. 1, +5% per level, maxing at +25%.

A mage or magician, also known as an enchanter, sorcerer, warlock, witch, or wizard, is someone who uses or practices magic derived from supernatural, occult, or arcane sources. As a character class, they are considered to be spellcasters who wield powerful spells, but are often physically weak as a trade-off.
