— System Message in 7th Dragon III Code: VFD.

Character Creation is a core aspect in the 7th Dragon series. It is the first step the player takes to create their own party, which will represent the protagonist of the game.

MechanicsEdit

7th DragonEdit

With the exception of one instance when party management can be done in Mylos, Character Creation is mostly done in the Guild Office of Kazan by speaking to Elan. After the first character is created, the player creates a guild.

The player can choose between 7 classes: Fighter, Rogue, Samurai, Knight, Mage, Healer and Princess. Each class has 4 character portraits: 2 males and 2 females, with the exception of Princess that is female-only. Each class also has 1 Lucier portrait. The character portraits are locked to their respective class and has no voice acting. The party can have up to 4 characters and the player can create up to 16 characters.

7th Dragon 2020Edit

The player can register new members at the Terminal. The playable characters make up Unit 13 of Murakumo. There are 5 classes to choose: Samurai, Destroyer, Trickster, Psychic and Hacker. This time, unlike in 7th Dragon, character portraits are not bound by class and can be applied freely to any class, as well as voice acting. A party can have 1-3 characters.

7th Dragon 2020-IIEdit

Like in 2020, the player can register new members at the Terminal and make up Unit 13 of Murakumo. The same character models return but with a new portrait and 2 recolors, as well as introducing the Idol class and Lucier character models, the latter unlocked after Chapter 3. 2020-II also introduces a feature where the player can change a current character's name, portrait and voice actor at no cost. It is unlocked by upgrading the Laboratory after Chapter 3. A party can consist of 1-3 characters.

7th Dragon III Code: VFDEdit

Similar to 2020 and 2020-II, Character Creation is done at the Terminal, which is always available in the Rest Room. The playable characters make up Unit 13 of Nodens, inspired by the original Unit 13. Free character portrait selection and voice acting returns. At the start, there are four classes available: Samurai, God-Hand, Agent and Duelist. New classes and character models unlock as the main story progresses: Rune-Knight and Fortuner, as well as their character portraits, are unlocked during Chapter 2; Mage and Banisher, and their character portraits, are unlocked during Chapter 4. The party expands from 3 at start, to 6 during Chapter 2, to 9 at Chapter 4.

Additional character models of 2020-II's female Samurai, female Hacker and female Lucier can be unlocked from DLC. A Blaster Raven character model is unlocked from DLC as well.
